Dear Readers,
There’s something about love that people don’t talk about enough.
Sometimes it doesn’t make sense to anyone else but you.
After reading Only for the Week, I kept coming back to that. The idea that your happiness won’t always be something other people agree with, and maybe it’s not supposed to be. Sometimes choosing love means choosing yourself, even when it makes other people uncomfortable.
Because not every love story looks right on the outside.
And not every relationship that ends was wrong.
Some people just aren’t meant for you, but they might be exactly right for someone else.
This book really leans into that.
The tension, the side-eyes, the quiet judgment… that feeling of knowing people don’t understand what you’ve found, especially when it didn’t take years to grow.
Love isn’t always neat. Sometimes it’s awkward. Sometimes it asks you to wait. Sometimes it asks you to fight. And sometimes it just asks you to jump and figure it out on the way down.
Janelle’s frustration? Deep.
Trying to keep the peace while holding everything in… that kind of silence builds. Especially when you’re surrounded by people who don’t really hear you. Just waiting for their turn to respond. The miscommunication, the gaslighting, the way selfishness gets dressed up as justification—it was all there.
And Amerie… I’m just going to say it.
She was the most frustrating character in the book.
But not without reason.
Because deep down, it felt like her insecurity came from knowing the situation didn’t make sense. Being engaged to your sister’s ex? That’s not something you can just smooth over. And even though the author hints at therapy, I couldn’t help but think—she needs more than a hint. She needs a long sit down on someones couch.
Still, the story moves.
It’s a quick read, but not shallow. There’s substance under the romance. A little spice, yes—but the foundation is what carries it.
This feels like a story for people who hesitate when it comes to love.
The ones who second-guess their choices because of how it might look to everyone else.
If that’s you… this one might sit with you longer than you expect.
