The Focus

A literary review platform centering Black authors and culturally resonant storytelling. Here, books are not simply rated, we write letters about them.

The Format

In a world that scrolls quickly, this space returns to the page. Each review unfolds as a letter, thoughtful, intentional, and rooted in reflection.

At its core, this space lives in the pages of the books I read. I share honest, heartfelt reviews. The kind that go beyond summaries. I talk about what a story stirred in me. What it challenged. What it healed. What it revealed.

The Why

Reading, for me, isn’t just entertainment. It’s therapy. It’s memory. It’s growth.

You’ll find a lot of love for powerful storytelling here. Especially the kind that centers Black voices, layered emotions, complicated relationships, and real-life truths.

The Writers Who Shaped Me

My all-time favorite author is Eric Jerome Dickey. His writing moves with rhythm, depth, and emotional honesty. And the Gideon Series? Phenomenal. Truly unforgettable.

The Pages Within

The Reading Corner

This is where I share what I’m currently reading, what I’ve loved, and sometimes what didn’t quite land for me. Expect thoughtful reviews, favorite quotes, and the occasional literary obsession.

(You’ll probably find links to my Goodreads and some favorite covers sprinkled in.)

Experiences

Life teaches in ways books sometimes can’t.

This section holds the moments that stayed with me. Experiences worth unpacking, lessons that shaped me, and reflections that deserve to be written down.

It’s honest. Sometimes vulnerable. Always real.

Pen to Paper

This is where the mood leads.

Short reflections. Doodles of thought. Personal pieces that don’t always fit into a category but needed to exist anyway.

Some days it’s soft.

Some days it’s sharp.

All days it’s sincere.

This space moves in layers.

This blog is layered because I am layered.

It’s warm because I choose warmth.

And it’s rooted in growth. Through stories, through experience, and through putting pen to paper when my heart needs space to breathe.

If you’re here, I hope you find something that resonates.

A book to pick up.

A thought to sit with.

Or simply the comfort of knowing someone else felt that too.

Start with a Letter, Stay for the stories.

From love,

The Letters
