Broken Clocks by Danielle AllenMy rating: 5 of 5 stars
⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ 5 stars — emotionally wrecked (in the best way)
Broken Clocks by Danielle Allen was a very good read. Like… I finished this book emotionally wrecked.
This book definitely met my expectations, especially because it was recommended by a good friend of mine — and Danielle Allen is also one of my best friend’s favorite authors, so I already knew I was walking into something good.
I was hooked fast. The story had enough pull to keep me reading without feeling like it was dragging or doing too much. And while I’ll be honest… explicit sex scenes aren’t really my thing these days, it wasn’t overload. There weren’t that many, so I pushed through just fine.
The love story of William and Layla was beautifully written. Their ability to love each other, communicate effectively, and survive some of the worst obstacles life could throw at them… and still choose each other? Whew. That was the kind of romance that sticks with you.
My favorite character was definitely Jenelle, Layla’s best friend. She reminded me so much of the relationship I have with one of my best friends — honestly I might be Jenelle 😂
Now as far as who annoyed me… Molly, hands down. Like ma’am??? It was giving “foot in Duece’s mama ass” 😭 and I meant that wholeheartedly.
The storyline felt very believable too, because sometimes the universe really does be funny like that. And listen… the twist?? The ultimate twist?? I did NOT see it coming.
I saw other reviews saying they cried, and while I was reading I kept thinking, “Maybe they’re just more sensitive than me,” because I had sad moments but no tears…
Until… the tears came. 🥴
This is a true romance novel — emotional, deep, and worth the ride. And the scene that hit me the hardest would give too much away, so I’ll just say this:
Read it for yourself.
